Deer Lake is a town in Western Newfoundland situated at the outlet of the upper Humber River along the shores of the lake which it is named after. It is a gateway community that provides access to the Northern Peninsula via the Viking Trail through Gros Morne National Park. Many people who work out of province choose to live close to the area because of the close proximity to Deer Lake Regional Airport.
The town serves as a hub between Northern and Central Newfoundland providing services and supplies to surrounding areas. Residents of this area enjoy a full range of services as well as access to prime hunting and fishing communities close by such as Howley and Bonne Bay Pond. These areas are also great for snowmobiling in the winter and hiking in the summer. Deer Lake is known as the snowmobile hub of Newfoundland. It has a network of groomed trails that lead to deep powder and untouched back country.
Deer Lake beach is a spot enjoyed by locals during the summer. Various camping grounds and cabins are located just 10-20 minutes away which makes a weekend camping trip simple and easy. Just outside of town you'll find Funland Resort which has a 200-foot outdoor water slide, full-size swimming pool, mini golf, and a campground as well.
